Zoo Negara aka the unsafest place on earth

So a week ago my 4 year old's teacher told me he could not go on the class trip to the zoo. He was upset, I was a little upset but now after a trip to said zoo, I am not upset. This woman clearly saved his life! Luke is what is called an active child. He can be downright awful in public places but can be very good too. It is sort of hit or miss what kind of day you might have with him.

So yesterday we brave the heat of KL and go to the zoo with the kids. The place is a bit of a death trap. The railings are so low even my 2 year old could have climbed over, the railings are also open, so a kid could slip undr or between. The 'moats' to keep a lot of the animals in are so small, again my 2 year old could jump them. The water keeping the lion and tiger in was about 6-10 inches deep. Here are some highlights of the zoo.

Zoolions
Note the low wall barrier and the 6-10 inch deep water. I don't know what they are doing to keep these cats in!?

Zoodeer
This wall is about 6 inches tall and the deer come right up to it. Luckily Malaysian deer do not seem to be deadly!

Zoocroc
And seriously there is no camera trickery in this photo. There is an open rail and a small hedge seperating the public from this guy.

Zoolukeel
And this falls under the cool and a little scary. For 1 RM you can feed the elephants. The kids loved it, but see the rail and the 'moat' seperating us from Jumbo is not very deep or wide. But they loved it and he loved the sugar cane - a lot.

A night out

Last night we left the kids at home with the sitter and hit the town. We ended up going to a big market and eating a very real Indian dinner. It was good.

My second dinner - I ate one and then so wanted this bread that I got a waiter and pointed to it on someone else's table. It was so so good.

Twilight

And this was our view as we arrived poolside at our apartment. Who knew skyscrapers could be so pretty?

Knitting like a house on fire

So this past weekend was a pretty good one. It started on Friday night with a visit to our favorite outdoor restuarant. This pepper steak with garlicy green beans made my night.

And I am not the only one that loves this place. Everyone in the family orders this ice blended fruit drinks. They are super good.

I still have only one Monkey sock done. # 2 will start as soon as I cast off on this lastest baby sweater. I need a change from the crap yarn.

And here is a sweater I started 3 years ago! It is the sweater on the front. It would actually fit #2 son now, but it is much too hot here. So I opted to delet the doggie fromt he front and it will be added to the chairity pile. Now I just need to figure out a good place to send all these - This sweater makes 5.

Lots of knitting around here

So I have been knitting a lot this last week. I finished socks for my husband's birthday. I also finished #1 chairty sweater - it just needs buttons.

I am actually knitting so many baby sweaters to try and use up some of my Chinese yarn that is not suitable for the new tropical climate I live in.

Our view

There is one thing we really really love about our new home - the view!

Klview

The Petronas Towers are beautiful at night and very handy for naviagtion during the day. There is a big huge mall at the bottom where we have found our bookstores, the nearest Starbucks (not that we have been yet) and a yummy food court - yes, there really is a yummy mall food court. They even have a concert hall and an aquarium as well. We love the Petronas Towers!

Damncookies

There is one major gripe I do have with this city though (besides the moped drivers) and that is the easy availability of Australian sweets and cookies. The above is a classic case in point. These cookies were bought on a whim, as my other Arnott's lovies, Thin Mints, were all out. Arnott's must put crack cocaine in them because I am totally addicted. I guess my time in the gym will have to encrease somewhat. These cookies are just too good. Salty butter and crunchy, but covered in choclate that is not too sweet. Perfection in a cookie. Damn Arnott's and their cookies!

Happy Merdeka

Hubbo has had a long break from work - with our stuff arriving, Merdeka, the weekend and finally Labor Day on Monday. You would think with all that time off the house would be all tidy - clearly that is not the case!

Hopefully in a week or so I can repost pictures of how things look all nice and tidy!

And finally, we hit the pool on Merdeka - Claire enjoyed modeling her bikini!
