Crafting inbetween doctor visits

Sewingtable

In between visits to the doctor for ear infections (plural) and head wounds - I have managed to do a little crafting. Above I am working on the double sided apron from Lotta's 'Simple Sewing' book.

And below is a classic freezer paper stencil t-shirt. I may have to do something to all my t-shrts..

Dinner out and another head trama

Last night we had a nice swim and dinner out with another FS family who are posted in India.

This is what can happen when you give the camera to a 13 year old boy - these kinds of photos and a lot of either unflattering photos or eyebally ones!

Then today all seemed well - the boys got off to school, Claire and I hung around the house, and just as I am parking the car to pick up Luke, I get the call. The "um, Mrs mumble mumble, this is Luke's school...." Apparently another boy (the same rubber python victim of day one, and a bruised forehead for Luke last week becuase he pushed him) threw a wooden ball (geometric shape - Montessori work, is my guess) at him during music time and it split open his forehead. Before Luke was 4, I always thought a sharp edge of some kind caused cuts, but I was mistaken.

My favorite part of Thailand

When I went to Bangkok last month we went to the huge weekend market, it was so so hot. I felt like I would pass out from the heat and the waiting around while members of my party bought full services of silverware.

Then I spotted this

Popsicle1

Popsicle2

They tasted like grape Kool aid and were so so good. Too bad some members of my shopping party were too nervous to try them - they missed out big time!

Even more socks

I finished up the last pair of socks - Gentleman's fancy socks and now it is on to yet another pair for me.

Dolls

Dolls

These two dolls were mine as a child. My mother recently dug up some of their clothes patterns and whipped up two new dresses. They are a little 1975, but Claire can take them on and off easily and that makes everyone happy!

Socks and more

I am still plugging away on the socks. They are almost done and I already have plans for the next pair.

Someone also likes her new bikini....even though it is a tiny bit too big she insists on wearing it.

And someone else thinks he is holding up the building, or maybe the tree, with his hand. And that is fruit leather in his teeth - not rot!

Happy New Year take 2

Today is the start of the new year as marked by the Muslim calendar. Next month is Happy New Year #3 in Malaysia as Chinese New Year comes. In preparation for that one, I went to Chinatown last night to get some supplies. I do not like going to Chinatown at night - it is hot, dirty and very crowded. But I did have a very nice foot massage - given to me by an actual person from China! This lady came from Shengyang to make money. The lady I went with asked if I was going to tell them I spoke Chinese, I said no, I will just listen and see how much I understand, plus Malay-Chinese is full of things I can't recognize with all it's slang. So I am listening to the people at the counter talking and my foot massage lady keeps looking at me and finally says "You understand?!" She did not speak any English so she was thrilled to have somebody to talk to. Maybe we should have gone to get foot massages when we were looking for an ayi....

Same same

Malaysianflower

In Malaysia they use a lot of slang. Same same is what they say instead of 'the same as' or 'alike'. I have even heard 'same same lah' said on the radio.
Well everyday for me in Malaysia is turning out to be same same. I think it is starting to drive me a little nuts. When we move again in a mere 16 1/2 months we MUST move to a place with seasons. I think that might help a little.
The new preschool is what it is. On day one Luke was hysterical at pick up because he had accidently hit another kid with a rubber python. They insisted he say sorry - there was no way on earth he was going to say sorry, especially after every adult in the place had much such a big deal about it - in a way that only Chinese preschool teachers can. Since then he has only been to school twice. Yesterday they told me he doesn't want to go in his classroom to do work - I wanted to point out that letting the children have 'free play' all over the school for the first 30 minutes of the day probably had something to do with that...but I didn't. He only needs to get throughabout 80 days of preschool. Though I will add the owner did not seem all that worked up about him not wanting to go in his classroom, she even said she gave him some jobs to do to keep him busy. So that was encouraging. We'll see what today brings at the preschool.
